- »Timothy Adams Wins Back to Back Super High Roller Bowls
Imagine winning two $250,000 buy-in tournaments in as many months. That just happened to Canada’s Timothy Adams.
Adams won the inaugural Super High Roller Bowl Australia in February and banked A$2,160,000 ($1,446,112). He followed that up with victory in the Super High Roller Bowl Sochi event for a career-best $3,600,000.
Timothy Adams Banks $3.6 Million: Final Table Results
Place | Player | Country | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Timothy Adams | Canada | $3,600,000 |
2 | Christoph Vogelsang | Germany | $2,400,000 |
3 | Mikita Badziakouski | Belarus | $1,600,000 |
4 | Ben Heath | United Kingdom | $1,000,000 |
5 | Adrian Mateos | Spain | $800,000 |
6 | Ivan Leow | Malaysia | $600,000 |
A field of 40 elite poker players bought into Super High Roller Bowl Sochi for $250,000, creating a $10 million prize pool.
The likes of Michael Soyza, Kahle Burns, Jason Koon, Phil Ivey, and Sam Greenwood saw their tournament end in disappointment. Nobody, however, was more disappointed that bubble boy Stephen Chidwick.
Chidwick returned to the felt on Day 3 seventh from seven and in need of a double-up. It never came. The British star committed his stack with an open-ended straight draw and Christoph Vogelsang called with ace-high. Vogelsang’s call was correct, his hand remained true, and Chidwick popped the bubble.
Ivan Leow was the first player to collect some prize money, namely $600,000. Leow came unstuck when he raised all-in with middle pair top kicker in a hand versus Vogelsang. Unfortunately for Leow, his Germany opponent flopped two pair and had an easy call. It was a good run for Leow who finished second to Sam Trickett in a $25K buy-in last week.

Mateos Doubles Through Adams; Busts Soon After
Adrian Mateos has vast poker experience despite his relatively tender age. We’re going out on a limb here but we don’t think he’ll have experienced a sicker run than what happened in Sochi.
Mateos doubled through Adams to soar into the chip lead. Three consecutive all-in losses resulted in Mateos busting in fifth-place. His nine-seven lost a flip against Adams’ pocket fives. Ace-king was no good against the pocket jacks of Adams. Mateos was eliminated when his pocket deuces failed to hold against Ben Heath’s ace-queen. Talk about from hero to zero.
Four-handed play lasted seven hours, including breaks, and ended with Heath’s exit. Heath won his first World Series of Poker bracelet last summer but could get his hands on this title. Adams called Heath’s 12-big blind shove with ace-deuce and was slightly ahead of Heath’s queen-six. The board gave Heath hope but he missed his outs and had to make do with the $1 million prize instead.
Partypoker-sponsored pro Mikita Badziakouski was the next player to fall by the wayside. Badziakouski thought all his Christmases had come at once when he looked down at ace-queen and realised Vogelsang had set him all-in. The Belarusian only had 10 big blinds so he snap-called with his short stack. Vogelsang showed jack-three and looked set to double Badziakouski. That was until the Germany flopped two pair. No aces or queens landed on the remaining community cards and the player count reduced by one.
Vogelsang Holds Chip Lead Going Into Heads-Up
Vogelsang held a 5,575,000 to 4,425,000 chip lead over Adams going into the heads-up battle. The German won a Super High Roller Bowl even back in 2017 and walked away with $6 million. He’d have to settle for the runner-up prize on this occasion.
Adams got the best of the early confrontations but could never pull away, at least not in the early stages. Eventually, however, he found himself in a commanding position.
The final hand saw all the chip go into the middle preflop, Vogelsang holding ace-six and Adams ace-nine. A ten-high flop failed to alter the hand’s course, and neither did the jack on the turn. The nine of diamonds landed on the river to bust Vogelsang and lock up back-to-back titles for the hot-running Adams.
When Is The Next Super High Roller Bowl?
We’re unsure when the next nosebleed stakes tournaments will run because of the coronavirus outbreak. Entire countries are on lockdown with dozens of poker tournaments either postponed or cancelled altogether.
